New extended-stay hotel opens on city’s south side
Eau Claire’s newest hotel opened last week on the city’s south side, near Interestate 94.
The 81-room Candlewood Suites, 4937 Bullis Farm Road, opened Wednesday under the management of Larson Cos., an Eau Claire-based hospitality company.
The extended-stay hotel is next to Holiday Inn South and Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, which also are run by Larson.
State nominees sought for annual Job Honor Awards
MADISON — Awards that honor workers who overcame disadvantages and employers that hire them are seeking Wisconsin nominees until Sept. 30.
Two individual workers who have overcome disabilities, criminal convictions, refugee status or other barriers to unemployment will be selected from nominees. Two employers that hire people who have those disadvantages to getting a job also have been honored in previous years.
Nominees for America’s Job Honor Awards can be submitted online atjobhonor.org.
The ceremony for Wisconsin’s awards will be on Nov. 28 at Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison.
Eau Claire-based hospitality company Larson Cos. was among the Wisconsin honorees in 2016.
In addition to Wisconsin, America’s Job Honor Awards also honors workers and employers in Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota.
Hope Gospel opens bargain center in Menomonie
Hope Gospel Mission opened its latest thrift store recently in Menomonie.
The Eau Claire-based charitable organization will hold a grand opening celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday at the new store, 1230 N. Broadway St.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.
The organization’s original Bargain Center and building supply business, Building Hope, are both located in Eau Claire.
• Gregory Mleziva became managing principal of accounting firm Bauman Associates on Sept. 1, succeeding John Satre. Mleziva has worked for Bauman, which has offices in Eau Claire and Hudson, since 1990.
