How to identify and support those with hoarding issues
Hoarding is a multi-dimensional condition that can be difficult to identify and address. This professional training is for anyone who may serve or interact with someone who is struggling with hoarding issues. You will learn from a variety of experts who have experience with various aspects of hoarding.
Overview of the day:
Debra Klund, a psychotherapist at Mayo Clinic Health System, will focus on hoarding from the mental health perspective. She will discuss the DSM‐5 description of hoarding, what hoarding is, hoarding vs. collecting, understanding personality traits (OCD, etc.), and treatment options.
Nancy Rothwell, a professional organizer for 16+ years and member of the Eau Claire County Hoarding Task Force, has been on TLC’s Hoarding: Buried Alive. She will provide her perspective about the realities of working with and helping individuals who have struggled with hoarding.
Jessica Smith, a certified social worker and current chair of the Eau Claire County Hoarding Task Force, will provide information about what initiatives the task force are currently working on. She will also discuss resources available in the community to help those who are struggling with hoarding.
In the evening, there will be a free community session. Be sure to tell others who you think could benefit from information on hoarding.
