Exhibit: Thursday, February 21 to Thursday, March 28
Artist Reception: Thursday, March 14, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
The Pen Project’s Mixed Media Exhibit will enlighten people of all ages and backgrounds to the talent that lives inside America’s correctional system. Paintings, drawings, poetry and testimonies are submitted by inmates and people who are at-risk of incarceration to The Pen Project (a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Eau Claire, WI) and designed into an art magazine that is distributed to facilities throughout the nation. As one inmate said, “The Pen Project has given many a positive way to express themselves through their gifts and abilities… it encourages and provokes thoughtful reflection.” The best of the artwork and excerpts from writings will be on display.
To celebrate the exhibit and the release of Volume 3 Issue 1, an event entitled Voices of The Pen Project will take place on Thursday, March 14th from 6-8pm. Local poets and authors Bruce Taylor and Patti See will be reading poetry and narratives by inmates, and formerly incarcerated creatives will be sharing their work. There will be free coffee and mini waffles from Shift and free ice cream from Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor for attendees! Please visit thepenproject.org to learn more, subscribe to the e-newsletter and donate to support the mission. The Pen Project is on instagram (#faithartpurpose) and facebook (@thepenprojectinc).
The Heyde Center for the Arts is open M-Thu from 10 am to 5 pm and Friday 10 am to 4 pm. The Center is closed on weekends.
