UW-Extensions in Clark and Taylor counties will host a four-part series of meetings, “So You Want to Raise Beef?”

The first meeting in the series of four beef informational meetings will be held July 18 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Richard and Kay Halopka farm shop, N726 Robin Drive, Stetsonville.

The goal of these meetings is to inform farmers who may be considering raising beef. The first in the series will focus on pasture management during a trying year and will include a tour of paddocks reseeded in the spring of 2019 and a look at body conditioning scoring of the beef herd.

In addition, the meeting will include a review of how to calculate feed inventory for the winter-feeding period during the growing season. UW-Extension Taylor County Ag Educator Sandy Stuttgen will discuss why body conditioning scoring is important for your rebreeding program.

UW-Extension Clark County Ag Educator Richard Halopka will provide background on improving pastures to fulfill cattle nutritional requirements.

There will be some morning refreshments and a free-will donation will be accepted.
