State officials confirmed a deer farm in Vilas County had animals test positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection confirmed the results after tests conducted by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories. The infected deer was identified during routine surveillance. The adult doe was born on the farm.
The farm includes a herd of about 150 white-tailed deer. Those animals will remain quarantined while state and federal agents conduct an investigation.
CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects deer, elk and moose.
