Trapping season is still in the future, but Wisconsin trappers who want to use Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge face a looming deadline.
Bids for trapping in the refuge for the coming season are due 6 p.m. Oct. 6. Trappers can access the 2021 bid form on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website. There are 21 wetland trapping units available.
Trappers must be at least 18 years old and submit a minimum bid of $25 per unit. Payments will be collected only from successful bidders. Trappers can bid on all units, but can win only one. A random drawing will award the unit if there is a tie for the high bid at a specific location.
Bids will be opened at 9 a.m. Oct. 13, and successful bidders will be notified by phone the same day. Payment for winning bids must be received or postmarked by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.
