The School District of Reedsburg’s Hartje Outdoor Learning Center is hosting the annual First Tree Tapping event for the Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association at 10 a.m. on March 16.

The district’s Maple Syrup Education program continues to grow and through a new relationship with the WMSPA, the district was “tapped” to host the annual First Maple Tree Tapping event. Dignitaries from WMSPA, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and local government officials are expected to be in attendance when the special proclamation is read and a Maple tree tapped.

Due to limited parking space at the Hartje Outdoor Learning Center, attendees are to park in the Webb Middle School parking lot and a shuttle bus will take them to the site. Shuttles will start at 9:30 a.m.

The shuttle bus will drop off attendees near the newly constructed restroom and concession building at the Hartje Outdoor Learning Center. Light refreshments and snacks will be available. Then attendees can walk about a quarter mile to the Sugar House where the ceremony will take place. There will be assistance available for those that need it.

Individuals interested in attending the First Tree Tapping Day are asked to register online at to ensure adequate transportation.
