The Barron County Woodland Owners Association will hold its spring field day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Timberland Hills Ski Area northwest of Cumberland. The day will include visits to three woodlands being actively and successfully managed for wildlife, beauty and timber.
Todd Lanigan, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources forest health specialist, will lead a discussion on forest health issues including invasive species at the different sites. After lunch, the group will tour Norsk Wood Works Ltd., where owners Phillip Odden and Else Bigton create carved wooden furniture from sustainably harvested local wood. They will discuss the types and quality of wood needed for their business.
To get to the meeting site, take U.S. Highway 63 north from Cumberland one mile to County Road H. Go west for 8.6 miles to the ski area.
The cost of $8 for adults and $3 for ages 12 and under includes lunch and bus transportation to the sites. To register, contact Steve Hansen at 715-288-6817 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration is limited to 40 participants.
