CHIPPEWA FALLS — A unique musical comedy ghost story is hitting the Heyde Center for the Arts stage this week. “The Ghosts of Lone Oak” starring the Wayward Players community theatre troupe will run Thursday through Sunday.
The Wayward Players have premiered original musical comedies for more than 20 years. Each new production brings fresh stories, songs and comedy to audiences performed by talented area performers directed by Jerry and Carol Way.
Lone Oak is a grand old country club recently fallen on hard times, seemingly destined to be sold for commercial development. Set in the present day, Lone Oak Country Club is haunted by the ghosts of two elegant couples from the 1920s, the Dysons and the Quinns.
At night the ghosts appear and speak freely among themselves. They are fully visible to anyone who happens upon them, but have the ability to disappear into the shadows, creating disturbing experiences for staff and club members, nicknamed “Crazy Acorns.”
From perspectives separated by a full century, the ghosts and the present day members seek to answer the same burning question: Can their beloved country club be saved from oblivion?
The show’s script and songs were written by Jerry Way. “The Ghosts of Lone Oak” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (dinner option available), and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets are $17 for adults, $16 for seniors and $8 for youth. For more information, visit cvca.net.
