EAU CLAIRE -- The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild’s Encore 40th Anniversary opens with the Broadway musical "Godspell," Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 at Pablo Center at the Confluence's Jamf Theatre.
The show is one of the longest running and most beloved musicals of all time. It combines improvisation and contemporary storytelling to illustrate the parables found in the Gospel of Matthew,
The score, by Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote the smash hit "Wicked," incorporates a variety of styles including pop, folk, rock, gospel and vaudeville.
Many of the songs featured in the show -- including "Day by Day," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Prepare Ye the Way" and "By My Side," have become staples of the American musical theatre and pop culture.
The musical proclaims a message of tolerance, kindness and hope designed to appeal to family members of all ages.
Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, through Saturday, Oct. 2; and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and Sunday, Oct. 3.
