EAU CLAIRE — A fire late Monday morning was contained to a single second-floor unit at the Oxbow Villas apartment complex in Eau Claire.

No injuries were reported but firefighters rescued one cat in the blaze , which was reported around 11:30 a.m. Monday at the complex at 218 10th Ave., according to a report from the Eau Claire Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke in a hallway on the second floor and then determined the fire was confined to a single apartment. They requested additional fire crews to assist with the fire attack, search and ventilation assignments.

Crews extinguished the fire before it could spread to any other units, but the entire building was evacuated after fire alarms sounded, the report indicated.

No damage estimate was immediately available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
