HUDSON — A 36-year-old Wilson man died in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in St. Croix County.
According to information released by the St. Croix County sheriff's office:
At 12:20 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 12 at Bridge Avenue in the town of Baldwin.
A pickup truck, driven by Scott A. Gossel, was eastbound on U.S. 12. The preliminary investigation indicates the truck entered the south ditch, went over Bridge Avenue and struck a stop sign and power pole. The truck came to rest against the power pole.
Gossel was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County medical examiner.
Gossel was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol is a possible factor in the cause of the crash.
Assisting at the scene were United Fire & Rescue, Baldwin Area Emergency Medical Services and the Woodville, Baldwin and Hammond Police departments.
This is St. Croix County's 1st fatality of 2019.
The crash remains under investigation.
