Menomonie Middle School went into a lockdown just after 10 a.m. Friday after police received a report of an armed intruder there.
Law enforcement officers secured the school grounds and conducted a search for a possible suspect, Menomonie Police Chief Eric Atkinson said.
After an investigation, it was determined the report was false.
There were students outside the school during the lockdown and they were bused to the hockey arena at Dunn County Recreation Park for their safety.
After the school was determined to be safe, students were returned to the school to continue their studies or be picked up by parents, Atkinson said.
Law enforcement will remain at the school to assist with the safety of students, faculty and parents arriving to take children home.
