LADYSMITH — A snowmobiler was injured Sunday night when his head hit a bridge in Rusk County.

According to information released by Sheriff Jeff Wallace and Scott Bowe, a warden team supervisor for the state Department of Natural Resources:

At about 7:03 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff's office received a report of a snowmobile striking the Highway I bridge in the town of Dewey, and a subject lying under the bridge.

The snowmobile actually didn't strike the bridge and sustained no damage. However, the head of its 61-year-old operator — who was wearing a helmet — did.

In addition to deputies, personnel from the state Department of Natural Resources, Ladysmith Fire Department and the Rusk County Ambulance Service responded to the scene, and the Ladysmith resident was transported by Life Link helicopter to a hospital in Marshfield.

The crash is under investigation.
