NEILLSVILLE — An 87-year-old Owen man died Saturday after his vehicle collided with a train in Clark County.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol:

At about 9:48 a.m. Saturday, the State Patrol received a report of a train-automobile crash at the crossing at Berglin Avenue south of Pine Road near Owen.

A car attempted to cross the railroad tracks and was struck by a Canadian National Railway freight train.

The driver of the vehicle was fatally injured, but the crew on the train — a 36-year-old man from Spooner and a 37-year-old man from Rice Lake — were uninjured. Names are being withheld pending family notification.

The crash remains under investigation.

Personnel from the Clark County sheriff’s office, Owen-Withee Community Ambulance Service and Marshfield Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
