A fire displaced residents of the upper and lower units of an Eau Claire duplex Monday in Eau Claire.
According to a news release from the Eau Claire Fire Department:
The department was dispatched at 3:43 p.m. Monday for the blaze at 1129 Barland St. Two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit and a battalion chief responded.
First floor occupants had reported smoke coming from the basement, and fire crews observed light, white smoke coming from the basement door.
Crews quickly confirmed that all occupants, from the upper and lower apartments, had evacuated and launched an offensive fire attack. The fire was quickly confined to the basement and extinguished.
Overhaul and salvage operations were conducted, and the American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to the displaced occupants.
The fire is under investigation.
