Brad Venaas, post adjutant of American Legion Post 53 in Eau Claire, chats with a guest Saturday afternoon during the post’s 100th anniversary celebration. Fifteen Eau Claire area World War I veterans applied for a charter in 1919 to establish Post 53 in Eau Claire. The founders took that step in France before returning home, Venaas says. The post is currently located at 634 Water St and is named the American Legion Johnson-Nicole-Kuhlman-Olson Post 53 in honor of veterans from the Chippewa Valley who gave their lives in World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The Post is dedicated to supporting veterans, their families, youth, patriotism and the community.
