CHIPPEWA FALLS — A two-vehicle crash Monday morning caused eastbound Highway 29 to be closed for two hours, said Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk.
The crash occurred at 6:33 a.m. in the town of Wheaton, near 20th Street. A Dodge Ram collided with the side of a truck, causing damage to both vehicles, Kowalczyk said. The truck rolled onti tis side, blocking both lanes of eastbound Highway 29. The Dodge Ram also was disabled in the lane of traffic.
The persons involved were identified as Ger Xiong and Yer Yang of Elk Mound and Abdulahi Abdi of Oakdale, Minn. Abdi was not injured, but was extricated from his truck. Xiong and Yang, who were in the Dodge Ram, were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was rerouted onto local roads for two hours while the scene was cleared. The Wheaton Fire Department and Eau Claire Ambulance assisted the sheriff's department at the scene.
