The Eau Claire school board on Monday will discuss a proposal from a private developer to build new high school athletic fields.
The 4 p.m. meeting will be the first time the board will see a presentation on the project, which is still in preliminary stages, but it has created excitement.
“I’m excited to have this conversation as a board,” board President Joe Luginbill said. “We’re in a very exciting time in Eau Claire as it relates to developments and public-private developments, so this is an opportunity, potentially, for the school district to join in that energy of public and private developments in a deeper way.”
The presentation, according to board materials, will include a description of the project, background on the project, a proposed timeline, a proposed budget and the alignment of the project to the district’s strategic plan.
No further information was available from the district as of Friday afternoon, including the identity of the private developer proposing the project or the proposed location of the project — whether at Memorial or North high schools, or elsewhere in the community.
The fact that a private developer is interested in working and collaborating with the district is a great example of the district’s strategic plan of strengthening connections with the community to support students, Luginbill said.
“This is an indication of the positive way in which our community views the school district and really respects the work in our school district, the positive way we’ve conducted ourselves as a board and the relationships we’ve built with the community,” he said. “This coming forward is, if nothing else, a testament of the positive way we’ve built relationships with the community and private sector.”
