A car driven by Phillip Kurtz, 28, of Dallas smashed into trees around 2 a.m. Saturday morning on Highway A east of Dallas after Kurtz swerved into the shoulder of the highway, over-corrected, went into the eastbound lands of the highway and then off the road into the trees. Kurtz was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire.

BARRON — A man is in critical condition after a crash that ejected him from his vehicle at 2 a.m. Saturday on Highway A east of Dallas, according to the Barron County sheriff’s office.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office: 

Deputies from the Barron County sheriff’s office responded to the scene of a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning at the intersection of Highway A and 18½ Street. 

Preliminary investigation shows the driver, Phillip Kurtz, 28, of Dallas was traveling westbound on Highway A when his vehicle went onto the shoulder. He then overcorrected, causing his vehicle to go into the eastbound lanes, off the road and striking some trees. Kurtz was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, where he was listed in critical condition. 

The investigation also shows that alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. 

Dallas Fire Department, Chetek Fire Department, Chetek Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter also responded to the scene.
