An Altoona man was fined $516 for putting a hidden camera in the bedroom of a female housemate.

Luis A. Vazquez Acosta, 22, 630 Saxonwood Road, pleaded no contest recently in Eau Claire County Court to a misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy with a surveillance device.

According to the criminal complaint:

A woman told Altoona police Aug. 22 she found a hidden camera in her bedroom.

The woman said she has lived with Vazquez Acosta and his fiance for the past year.

The woman said she noticed a hole had been cut out of the center of a canvass piece of artwork on the south wall of her bedroom.

A cellphone was taped to the back of the artwork behind the hole.

After first denying it, Vazquez Acosta admitted to putting the phone behind the picture in the woman’s bedroom.

Vazquez Acosta denied that he captured any images of the woman. He then apologized to the officer for lying.
