FUNDRAISER: “Shake it for Duchenne” will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Menomonie Middle School gym, 920 21st St. S.E.
Registration and the pre-party begins at 8:30 a.m.
The ninth annual Zumba Party will be hosted by the Menomonie High School Dance Team, Blue Devil’s Dance Team, Red Cedar Dance Company and local Zumba instructors.
The event is a fundraiser for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common life-limiting genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood. It affects one of every 3,500 boys.
Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy’s mission is to improve the quality of life and long-term outlook for all individuals affected by Duchenne through research, education, advocacy and compassion.
The event will support three local boys who have Duchenne muscular dystrophy: Brett Boettcher, Tom Platz and Mark Platz.
This event has raised $40,000 over the past eight years.
The event is free. Donations are accepted at the door.

SONS OF NORWAY: Sons of Norway, Loven Lodge 29, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the L.E. Phillips Senior Center, 1616 Bellinger St.
Following a brief meeting, Audrey Severson, president of Valkyrien Lodge in Woodville, will present a program on the traveling Viking chest, brimming with artifacts of cultural interest from other lodges.
She will also talk about other projects.
The public is invited and lunch will be served.

GENEALOGY: The Chippewa County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the History Center, 123 Allen St., Chippewa Falls.
The featured speaker will be Kelly Herold, executive director of the Buffalo County Historical Society.
Herold will talk about the influenza epidemic, also called the Spanish flu, which touched many families during 1918-19.
The meeting is open to the public.
Research assistance will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. and following the program.
