CHIPPEWA FALLS — A Chippewa Falls man has been charged in a hit-and-run, drunken driving incident that occurred Jan. 13.
Cordel S. Ashlock, 24, 842 Pumphouse Road, was charged in Chippewa County Court with second-degree recklessly endangering safety, hit and run involving injury, and causing an injury while under the influence of alcohol. Ashlock will appear in court March 12.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident occurred Jan. 13 at a home along Highway 27 in the town of Arthur. An eyewitness saw a man who was hanging out of the passenger side of a vehicle fall to the ground. The driver of the van ran the man over with one tire and sped away. The victim was airlifted to an Eau Claire hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A Cadott police officer stopped the van, which was driven by Ashlock. Ashlock's girlfriend also was in the vehicle. Ashlock admitted the man who was struck was once romantically involved with his girlfriend, and they had an argument.
Ashlock said he feared for his own safety, and he pushed the victim out of the vehicle, and he drove away. Ashlock failed a field sobriety test and submitted to a blood draw.
