An Eau Claire woman is accused of burning her son with a cigarette.
Samantha Y. Reilly, 28, 708 Eddy St., is charged in Eau Claire County Court with felony counts of physical abuse of a child and substantial battery.
Reilly is free on a $2,000 signature bond, which prohibits her from having contact with her children unless approved by the Eau Claire County Department of Human Services.
Reilly returns to court March 31.
According to the criminal complaint:
Reilly's 6-year-old child came to school Feb. 1 with a fresh injury on his face.
The child gave different stories of how he got the injury, but then said his mother burned him with a cigarette.
A police officer noticed the injury was consistent with a fresh burn mark and was circular in shape.
Reilly denied causing injuries to the child and denied smoking in the house, even though a police officer saw multiple ashtrays inside the residence.
If convicted of the charges, Reilly could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
