CHIPPEWA FALLS — An event to boost interest in becoming a foster parent is Thursday in Chippewa Falls.
The Coming Together for Foster Care Fashion Show at Brewster Bros. Brewing Co. is sold out. About $4,000 has been raised from ticket sales.
Tanya Berg, owner of Mainstream Boutique, and Carly Rubenzer, a former foster parent, are included in the group organizing the event, which will include beverages, snacks, vendors, raffles and a fashion show. All proceeds will go to support Chippewa County foster children and programming.
The county has seen a sharp rise in out-of-home placements, predominantly due to the methamphetamine epidemic. Currently, 196 children are in foster care, with nearly 100 removed from families this year. That number has quadrupled since 2014.
“This fall, community leaders in Chippewa Falls worked together to raise awareness of foster needs and set a goal of establishing 10 additional foster homes, 10 additional respite placements, and 20 new connections for volunteerism or donation,” said a statement announcing the event.
