A Connecticut man is accused of impersonating a federal officer at an Eau Claire hotel.
Michael G. Birner, 54, of Weatogue, is charged in Eau Claire County Court with misdemeanor counts of impersonating a peace officer and disorderly conduct.
A $150 cash bail was set for Birner, who returns to court March 20.
According to the criminal complaint:
Eau Claire police were called to the Regency Inn & Suites, 1828 S. Hastings Way, Wednesday for a disturbance.
A man said people in the room next to him were excessively loud. When he heard someone exit the room, the man opened his door and asked the person to keep the noise down.
The person, later identified as Birner, got confrontational and threatened to fight. Birner flashed a badge and said he was a U.S. Marshal.
When speaking to police, Birner admitted he was lying and provided the U.S. Marshal badge to an officer.
