Cheryl Andre

Cheryl M. Andre, 74, of Eau Claire, died on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire.

Cheryl was born in Durand, WI on October 6, 1944, the third child out of ten, to parents Gerald and Doris (Keenlyne) Andre. She grew up in Maxville, WI. As a youngster, Cheryl was active in 4-H. She had projects in gardening, sewing and cooking. She received the 4-H Key Award, which made her eligible for the 4-H Peace Corps. Cheryl graduated from Durand High School and attended the Vo-Tech in Eau Claire, where she learned office machines and key punch. Cheryl worked for J.C. Penny for 20 years, doing various office duties.

Cheryl was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1975. She volunteered for more than 40 years for many organizations, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Big Sisters. Cheryl even received the Volunteer Person of the Year Award while living in Rochester, MN. In 2003, Cheryl’s Multiple Sclerosis progressed to the point of requiring nursing home care. Per her request, Cheryl’s body was donated to the University of Minnesota for further research of Multiple Sclerosis.

Cheryl is survived by her siblings, Kevin Andre of Eau Claire, Camille (Randy) Koivisto of Stacy, MN, Nolan (Shari) Andre of Durand, Laurel (Dale) Gruber of Durand and Barry (Kimberly) Andre of Eau Claire; and also by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bruce (in infancy) and Bradley Andre; and sisters, Nadine Asher and Rochelle Oncy.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 911 W. Prospect St. in Durand, WI, with Father Paul Bosco officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services is serving her family.
