Darlene Davis

Darlene Dawn Davis, age 90, of Gilmanton, died on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Gunderson Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall. She was born on January 13, 1928 in Alma to Edwin and Grace (Adams) Ottum. She grew up in the Alma area and attended school there. On January 15, 1949, Darlene was united in marriage to Harold “Tweeter” Davis in Alma. Together the couple made their home in Gilmanton and raised ten children. Tweeter died on February 16, 1975.

Darlene was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved to play games with her children and took care of everyone, but was not someone to be crossed. She earned everyone’s love and respect. Her family remembers many activities she did with them, like squirrel and deer hunting, playing cards, and always beating everyone at cribbage. Darlene was an amazing cook; she was especially famous for her homemade buttermilk pancakes and head cheese. She also loved to sew and made hundreds of sock monkeys. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Brewers. Darlene was longtime member of Gilmanton United Methodist Church and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her three sons, John (Savilla) of Whitehall, Jody of Gilmanton, and Jamey (Sue) Davis of Gilmanton; five daughters, Nancy (Gary Hager) Pfund of Cream, Ellen (Donnie Lantz) Litchfield of Mondovi, Jean (Lonnie) Zingshiem of Osseo, Janelle (Dennis Kabus) Davis of Gilmanton, and Janine “Beaner” (Greg “Tate”) Stevens of Alma; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Jim) Winchester; three sisters, Jensine (Elmer) Myers of Nelson, Linda Robinson of Osseo, and Vicky Fuller of Altoona; three brothers, Royal Ottum of Modena, Allis (Rose) Ottum of Independence, and Clifford (Sandy) Ottum of Orlando, FL; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Tweeter” Davis; two sons, Jeff and Dale Davis; granddaughter, Sophie Dawn Kabus; parents, Edwin and Grace Ottum; two sisters, Mavis Anderson and Treva Lowenhagen; seven brothers, Art, Richard, Darrel, Jim, Kerry, Landon, Donald, and Ross Ottum; and many other relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Gilmanton United Methodist Church with Pastor Claire Mather officiating. Burial will follow at Gilmanton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, January 9 at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Mondovi and again on Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
