A brilliant, caring, generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend departed this world on November 30, 2018.
Jerry Rottier was born Sept. 11, 1939 in De Pere, Wisconsin to Alphonse and Josephine (Vanden Heuvel) Rottier. Growing up the oldest of nine on a dairy farm in De Pere, Jerry was the first from the family to attend college. After receiving his degree from St. Norbert College in 1961 he served in the army for two years. He married Lois Daul in 1963 and taught math at Bellevue, Nebraska High School while Lois finished her degree. He continued his teaching career at Madison, WI schools, and was principal of DeForest High School while working on his Master’s Degree.
Upon receiving his PhD in Educational Administration, Jerry went on to lead a distinguished university career which began at Findlay College in Findlay, Ohio and ended at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. As a highly regarded educator he promoted a middle school model that better reflected the unique psychological and intellectual needs of the middle school population and advocated for the practice of team-teaching through his classes, seminars and best-selling educational books for the National Middle School Association. He worked with various schools in the country to improve the teaching methods and delivery model for middle level education.
He and his wife raised three children, Kim, Angie and Mike. His children will always remember his fun-loving sense of humor; helpful, hardworking nature; love of learning, and entrepreneurial spirit.
He spent the majority of retirement at his homes in Eau Claire, WI and Surprise, AZ enjoying travel, golf, friends and family. He skillfully developed a hobby creating beautiful mosaics which he generously gifted to family and friends until succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters Helen, Carol, Mary, parents-in-law, Leonard and Henrietta Daul and brothers-in-law, David Daul and Ron Rodaer.
