Lowell V. “Ole” Olson, age 89, of Altoona, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens surrounded by his loving family.
Lowell was born on May 22, 1929, in Independence, to the late Bernie and Hazel Olson. He graduated from Independence High School with the Class of 1947. He married Lois Kloss on May 27, 1950, in Eau Claire. Lowell worked at Equity Livestock Yards in Altoona for 17 years. He retired from Uniroyal Rubber Company after 25 years. He was a member of the Altoona Volunteer Fire Department. Lowell was very active at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was a longtime member.
He and Lois had a place on the lake at Wildwood Resort in Chetek for over 45 years. They wintered in Daytona Shores, FL for 15 years. Lowell enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. He was always willing to help anybody in need.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois; children, Donavan (Joan) Olson, Sandy Endle, Cheri (Ed) Kretschmer, LuAnne (Jeff) Becker; grandchildren, Sara, Kari (Luke), Kelly (Mark), Melisa (Joel), Jeremy, Nick (Ember), Nathan (Melissa), Katie (Nick), Nichole, and Christopher (Courtney); great-grandchildren, Andre, Amaya, Carter, Aubrey, Brooke, Blake, and Chris; sister, Donna (Jim) Prough; and many other relatives and friends.
Lowell is preceded in death by his daughter, Susie Olson; son-in-law, Herb Endle; brothers, Bob and Merlin.
Lowell’s family would like to thank the staff at The Classic and Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice for their compassion and excellent care.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2245 Hayden Ave., Altoona, with Pastor Gary Rokenbrodt. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Rest Haven Cemetery, Eau Claire.
