Thomas Thompson

Thomas L. Thompson, age 76, long time Eau Claire businessman and co-owner of Thompson’s True Value and Ben Franklin Variety passed away at home surrounded by family on January 10, 2019.

Born October 24, 1942 in Hayward, WI to Thomas E Thompson and Lois Jane (Lee) Thompson. He grew up in Ashland, WI but moved to Eau Claire and graduated from Memorial High School in 1960. He is survived by his wife Sue (Knight) Thompson; two daughters: Deb Winters of Eau Claire and Dawn Powers of Turtle Lake; two Granddaughters Connee Winters of Eau Claire and Madelynn Powers of Turtle Lake and two Great Grandsons Cody & Zach of Eau Claire.

He is also survived by his two brothers John (Donna) Thompson of Eau Claire and David (Kathy) Thompson of Marshalltown, Iowa, other relatives and many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tommy & Lois Thompson, first wife Connee (Iehl) Thompson and infant son David.

He was a longtime member of the Masonic Sanctuary Lodge #347 and very active in the leadership of Alano Club 12. His compassion, strength and humor have touched many lives. He cherished his family and loved seeing how gullible they all were. He also loved reading, and watching all football, most of all the Packers and Badgers. He was the “go to” guy in hardware at the store. He knew what all the doohickeys and thingies were!

We will miss his notorious smirk, humor, thoughtfulness, but most of all his love.

We would like to extend a special thanks to The Luther Mayo Cancer Center, Dr. Battoo, the staff of the 5th floor Neurology Department and St. Joseph’s Hospice. Without their compassion and care our journey would have been more difficult. We extend many thanks to friends and neighbors who have been there for us when we needed them the most.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Friday January 18, 2019 from 3-7 pm at Hulke Family Funeral Home located at 3209 Rudolph Road in Eau Claire. There will be no formal service. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the Lutheran Church Cemetery in Eau Claire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Tom’s name to the Masons, Alano Club 12, or St. Joseph’s Hospice.
