Volvo introduced its first all-electric model, the XC40 Recharge, in 2020 but has announced its intention to sell only electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030 and to be fully carbon neutral by 2040. For now, Volvo offers two EV models along with a slate of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars. Here’s a rundown of electrified Volvo models that you can purchase today. The C40 is the first Volvo model designed from the outset as an EV. No, you won’t find the coupe-like C40 Recharge SUV at your dealership, but if you order one online, you’ll have access to 225 miles of range from the 402-horsepower powertrain with two electric motors. On a DC fast charger, you’ll get to 80 percent charge in 40 minutes. Using a 240-volt charger should take about 8 hours to charge the C40 Recharge’s battery fully.

Volvo offers its midsize sedan as a plug-in hybrid, with a turbo- and supercharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors to produce a combined 415 horsepower. The EPA says the S60 Recharge should take about 3 hours to charge with a 240-volt charger.

Serving as Volvo’s flagship, full-size sedan, the S90 offers a PHEV variant with 22 miles of electric-only range. A total of 308 hp are on tap from the 2.0-liter I4 engine paired with a couple of electric motors, and it should take about 3 hours to recharge with a 240-volt charger.

The sexy, svelte station wagon appeals to the heart, while its 415-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain attracts the brain. In addition to extra cargo space, you’ll get 22 miles of electric driving range. The EPA says it should take about 3 hours to charge the V60’s battery with a 240-volt charger fully.

Volvo’s small sport-utility is the automaker’s first entry into the all-electric vehicle market. Like the C40, you can only purchase this EV online. It should deliver about 223 miles of range, taking approximately 37 minutes to go from a 10-percent charge to 80 percent using a DC fast charger. Volvo says it will take up to 2 hours to fully charge the battery, depending on the wattage of the fast charger. With a 240-volt charger, it should take about 8 hours.

The midsize XC60 SUV has three engine choices, two of them being mild hybrids. The top-of-the-line option is the PHEV T8 with two electric motors in the Recharge model generating 400 hp, while the Polestar Engineered model stirs up 415 hp. Like all Volvo plug-in hybrids, it should take about 3 hours to recharge with a 240-volt charger.

Volvo’s largest SUV, the XC90, is in for a drastic overhaul, but until 2023, you can choose a 400-hp plug-in hybrid with a supercharger and turbocharger helping the I4 engine breathe. The XC90 Recharge’s batteries should take 3 hours to charge with a 240-volt charger.
