At the Leader-Telegram, we like to celebrate with those who make a positive difference in our organization and community. This week we had a lot to celebrate because of the dedicated employees and independent contractors who manufactured and delivered the vast majority of our newspapers in almost unbearable conditions.

When the deep-freeze was imminent, we decided that yes we would deliver our newspaper as scheduled. If someone felt unsafe because of their particular route, they could hold the paper for next day delivery.

Over the two days, less than a handful of routes went undelivered and in most of those cases, there were mechanical issues with delivery vehicles. All said, the delivery effort was excellent and we thank our circulation district managers, press room employees, inserters and bundle handlers, drivers and independent carrier force for their dedicated effort in getting the news to the homes of our valued readers and to dealer locations throughout the Chippewa Valley region.

There was one employee we’d like you to know about who went above and beyond her normal job duties. Her name is Shannon Sockness and her job is to ensure the proper inserts make it in the correct newspapers each day. Shannon was concerned that some of her fellow employees had less than reliable transportation and would be taking a risk in coming to work. She took it upon herself to pick up these employees herself. She also then volunteered to work the late shift to do the same. Shannon is an example of the team spirit we strive for in our work environment. We thank her for this special effort.

We also thank you, our readers for your continued support. Our efforts everyday are reader-focused. Our passion is to provide our best work to you each day, including polar vortex days. Have a great Saturday.
