We’ve done a couple editorials in recent months about mental health, but since May is Mental Health Awareness Month we’d be remiss if we didn’t do another this week.

The nation’s view of mental health issues has shifted remarkably over the past few decades. There’s a different level of awareness of its importance and there is less of a stigma attached to efforts people make to care for their mental health. That stigma isn’t gone — that will take a while yet — but the days when “suck it up” was a widely acceptable response to someone in crisis are gone.
