Climate tax measure a scam

Recently, two people who believe that climate change is really happening wrote letters to the editor promoting legislation for a tax scheme called the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.

Citing the usual talking points, wildfires, floods, hurricanes, etc., are getting worse due to climate change. They indicate meaningful CO2 reduction through alternative energies, regulations, emissions control and so on is not enough to stop this man-made catastrophe. What is needed is a tax on carbon.

They state such a tax would be revenue neutral in that all revenue would be returned to households equally and this would unleash the free market to drive down carbon pollution. Really? Will creating a tax stop a problem, global warming, that is not occurring?

Here is what would really happen. Once politicians create a tax it never goes away, it only goes up. This tax and dividend plan would be a redistribution of wealth and would require more “big government” to administer it. It would also stymie economic growth.

Leave the money in people’s pocket to spend as they see fit, not how some bureaucrat sees fit. Government picks winners and losers like Solyndra in which the investors won and the taxpayers lost.

All of this is really a moot point as that noted authority, Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., states we are all going to die in 12 years from climate change.
