Richards scores winner for UWEC
Jon Richards scored the only goal of the game as the UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team shut out Gustavus Adolphus 1-0 on Friday.
Richards’ score in the third period was assisted by Kyle Froese and former Memorial skater Jake Bresser.
Zach Dyment made 23 saves in net to post the shutout for the Blugolds.
Blue Devils double up St. Olaf
The UW-Stout men’s hockey team scored three goals in the first period en route to a 4-2 win over St. Olaf on Friday.
Mathias Ahman, Arturas Laukaitis, Alex Nagel and Gavin Smith all found the net for the Blue Devils in the win.
Regis grads to play for FCS national title
Regis graduates Cam Pedersen, a kicker, and Jaxon Brown, a linebacker and special teamer, will compete in the FCS Football Championship with North Dakota State today at 11 a.m. in Frisco, Texas.
Standing in the way of the undefeated Bison’s seventh title in eight years is Eastern Washington and dual-threat quarterback Eric Barriere.
Pedersen, a senior, has won two titles with North Dakota State, while Brown has won once. ESPN2 has the broadcast for both Pedersen and head coach Chris Klieman’s last game with the Bison.
Former Steel coach finds new home
Former Chippewa Steel general manager and head coach Al Rooney officially joined the staff of the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League as an assistant and goaltending coach on Friday.
Rooney joined the Steel when the NAHL franchise moved to Chippewa Falls but was relieved of his duties just two months into his first season on Nov. 20. Chippewa was 5-16-2 at the time of his firing and have gone 4-7-0 since.
