DeLeon signs Letter of Intent

Chippewa Falls’ Rico DeLeon, a second-team all-state linebacker with the Cardinals, signed his Letter of Intent on Wednesday to play collegiately at Iowa Western Community College.

Leon, the Big Rivers Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year, joins an elite program at the National Junior College Athletic Association level. The Reivers went 10-1 last season, earning a Graphic Edge Bowl victory and the No. 3 ranking in the country in the final poll.

Boyceville wrestling finishes as sectional runner-up

The Boyceville wrestling team finished as sectional runner-up in Ladysmith, falling to St. Croix Falls 42-31 in the sectional final.

Tyler Dormanen, Brock Schlough, Trett Joles, Josiah Berg, Nate Stuart and Ira Bialzik had individual wins for Boyceville against St. Croix Falls.

The Bulldogs defeated Whitehall 68-6 in the semifinals. Boyceville won 13 of 14 matches in that round.

Alix scores 33 for Beavers

Tanner Alix scored 33 points, thanks largely to his five 3-point makes, as Augusta boys basketball earned a 76-63 victory against Melrose Mindoro on Wednesday.

Andrew Perkovich also scored 19 for the Beavers, which pulled away in the second after going into the break with a five-point lead.

Colfax 65, Mondovi 51: George Scharlau scored 26 points, while Ben Thompson and Ed Hydukovich added 17 and 15, respectively, for the Vikings.

Scharlau tied with Mondovi’s Brennan Christopherson for a game-high three 3-pointers.

Whitehall 77, Immanuel Lutheran 61: Whitehall’s Jacob Fremstad scored 20, while Immanuel’s Ryan Zimmerman led all scorers with 21.
