Tyler Robarge led the Cardinals with 12 points, while Payton Rogers-Schmidt trailed closely behind with 10.

Prescott 89, Durand 56: Riley Radle led the Panthers with 10 points but Durand struggled to slow down Prescott’s Jake Doffing, who notched 25.

Girls hockey

Eau Claire Area 1, Hayward 0: Ava Kison scored the lone goal as the Stars earned their third 1-0 victory of the season.

Chippewa Falls/Menomonie 3, Bay Area 3: Ella Ausman, Megan Klass and Madelyn Hebert scored as CFM came back from down 2-0.

UWEC women earn upset

UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball recovered from a 10-point second-half deficit to upset No. 17 Wartburg on the road, 72-67.

The Blugolds mounted their comeback thanks to a stint of four shutout minutes in the fourth. Eau Claire shot 61 percent from the field in the second half, a 26 percent increase from the first half.

Hallee Hoeppner led the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Ponick leads Whitewater

UW-Whitewater’s football season came to an end on Saturday in the Division III semifinals but not for lack of trying from Stanley-Boyd graduate Ronny Ponick.

The former Oriole led the Warhawks in rushing yards (70) and scored a touchdown in Whitewater’s 31-14 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Crusaders, who earned their third straight appearance in the Stagg Bowl, scored 17 points before Whitewater was able to get on the board with a touchdown in the third quarter.

The loss was the Warhawks first of the season.

Locals heading to FCS semis

Regis grads Jaxon Brown and Cam Pedersen will be participating in the FCS semifinals after North Dakota State’s 35-0 drubbing of Colgate in the quarterfinal Saturday.

Pedersen hit five extra points for the Bison, who advanced to face rival South Dakota State next week.

UWEC women’s hockey rolls

UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey earned a dominant sweep of St. Norbert with a 7-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Hobbs.

Courtney Wittig scored twice, while Erin Goodell, Morgan Zirbel, Ellie Burris, Elizabeth Bauer and Lexi Wilson all beat St. Norbert goalie Anais Aurard once each. The Blugolds scored three goals in the first and second and one with just over five minutes left in the contest.

Eau Claire has won four straight going into Monday’s meeting with Hamline.

UW-Stout scores seven straight

UW-Stout men’s hockey scored seven unanswered goals, four in the second period and three in the third, in a 7-1 rout of Northland.

Logan Nelson, who kicked off the run, and Austin Jackson each scored twice.

UWEC men’s hockey can’t hold on

UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey took a 3-1 lead eight minutes into the second period, but Marian scored a minute later and again in the third to force a 3-3 tie at Hobbs.

Nathan Dingman, Lucas Kohls and Kyle Froese all scored for the Blugolds.

Steel fall to Fairbanks

The Chippewa Steel’s losing streak extended to four games with a 6-2 loss to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Saturday.

Jacob Dirks and Connor Szmul scored for Chippewa, which has given up a combined 27 goals in the last three games.
