Express add three to roster
The Eau Claire Express added three players to their 2019 roster on Thursday.
Troy Beilsmith and Connor Laspina are both returning for the Express. Beilsmith, who plays at the University of Evansville, played four games for Eau Claire last summer before leaving with an injury. Beilsmith has been Evansville’s leader in batting average two years in a row.
Laspina, a sophomore from Flagler University, joined the Express for the final five games of last season and will be playing his first full summer with the team.
Grand Canyon University outfielder Brock Burton will also play for the Express. Through his first six appearances of the college season this year, he’s hitting .250.
Wisconsin City Hoops tryouts coming up
Tryouts for the Wisconsin City Hoops AAU basketball program are set for this weekend and next weekend at the Eau Claire YMCA on Graham Avenue.
Tryouts for 4th-6th grade girls run from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. this Saturday, followed by 4th-6th grade boys from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 7th-8th grade girls tryouts are from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the 7th-8th grade boys from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tryouts for 9th-11th grade girls are this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by 9th-11th grade boys from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Each age group will have another tryout session the following weekend at the same time for each group listed above. 4th-8th graders are all on Saturday and 9th-11th graders are all on Sunday.
There is a $25 tryout fee. Registration can be done at the door or online at www.wiscityhoops.com.

3 Blugolds on All-WIAC hockey team
Three UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey players earned spots on the All-WIAC team this season.
Junior forward Jake Bresser — an Eau Claire Memorial alumnus — senior forward Lucas Kohls and senior defenseman Johnny Mueller earned all-conference recognition for the Blugolds.
UW-Stout senior defenseman Mathias Ahman was also named All-WIAC as well as the conference’s co-scholar athlete.
Honorable mentions included Stout goaltender Tommi Ahlgren and forwards Arturas Laukaitis, Logan Nelson and Conner Valesano, along with Eau Claire defenseman Adam Parsells.
