Fabeck leads Stout women
Amber Fabeck scored a career-high 24 points to lift the UW-Stout women’s basketball team to a 78-68 win over UW-Whitewater on Wednesday.
Fabeck hit four 3-pointers in the win. Bailey Diersen and Kyncaide Diedrich added 19 and 14 points, respectively.
The win put Stout at 2-1 in WIAC play and 12-2 overall this season.
Blugolds’ rally falls short
The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team rallied out of an early 19-0 deficit, but came up short in a 72-62 loss to UW-La Crosse on Wednesday.
The Blugolds outscored the Eagles 34-32 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the slow start.
Kelsey Bakken scored a game-high 19 points for Eau Claire
Stout men fall to Warhawks
John Keefe and Jon Ciriacks teamed up to score 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as the UW-Stout men’s basketball team fell to UW-Whitewater 83-60 on Wednesday.
Keefe scored a team-high 13 for the Blue Devils, while Ciriacks added 12.
Andre Brown led all scorers with 20 for the Warhawks.
Vavra named to NJCAA Hall of Fame
Menomonie alumnus Tanner Vavra was announced as a 2019 inductee to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IV Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Vavra was a standout baseball player for Madison College, earning third team All-American honors as a sophomore with the WolfPack. When he ended his Madison career, he was fourth in program history in batting average (.415).
He went on to play at Valparaiso University and had a five-year career playing professional baseball in the minor leagues.
