Locals make 3-point contest

Three local girls basketball players — Chippewa Falls’ Aaliyah McMillan, Elk Mound’s Sophie Cedarblade and McDonell’s Maggie Craker — were announced as competitors in the WIAA’s 3-Point Challenge as part of this year’s girls basketball state tournament.

The event will be held on March 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the Resch Center in Green Bay. Players whose teams advanced to state were not eligible.

Olson commits to Minnesota State

Eau Claire native and former Memorial Old Abe forward Brenden Olson announced his commitment to play Division I hockey at Minnesota State Tuesday afternoon.

Olson, who notched 22 goals and 19 assists in 24 games with the Abes in 2017-18, has split this year between the United States Hockey League and the North American Hockey League. He’s notched one assist in 11 games with the USHL’s Sioux City Stampede and has eight goals and 12 assists in 23 games with the NAHL’s Janesville Jets.

3-on-3 tourney announced

The Menomonie Lions Club is hosting its 13th annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament on March 16 at Menomonie High School. Interested participants can register online at menomonielions.org before March 10th. Call 715-308-0647 with any questions.
