Romanski named All-American
UW-Eau Claire linebacker Sam Romanski was named a Division III second team All-American by the Associated Press.
The junior led the WIAC with 14.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for a loss. His sack total was third-best in Division III. His 59 tackles were a team-high for the Blugolds.
Romanski is the first UW-Eau Claire football player to receive All-America honors since Paul Santi in 2013.
Regis grad sets NDSU record
Regis alumnus Cam Pedersen became the all-time leading scorer in North Dakota State football history in the Bison's 44-21 win over South Dakota State on Friday.
The kicker made five extra points and a field goal in the win, bringing his career point total to 391. That surpassed quarterback Jeff Bentrim's previous record of 386 career points set from 1983 to 1986.
The Bison advanced to the FCS national championship game with the win. They will face the winner of today's semifinal between Maine and Eastern Washington on January 5.
Stout hockey wins series opener
UW-Stout men's hockey scored the first three goals, including a shorthanded tally by Lucas Carroll, in a 4-1 road victory against Finlandia.
Alex Toscano opened the scoring and had an assist on the second goal, fired in by Dylan Zins. Finlandia's Timo Kocar ended the run 11:35 into the third, but Hunter Anderson gave the Blue Devils a three-goal cushion back two minutes later.
Stout hosts Finlandia in the second game of the home-and-home tonight at 7 p.m.
Stout hoops sweeps season series
John Keefe scored a game-high 27 points as UW-Stout men's basketball held off the pesky Finlandia Lions, 69-56.
Finlandia cut Stout's 16-point first-half lead to six at half, but the Blue Devils were able to pull away again in the second as they earned their second win of the season against the Lions.
Luke Geiger scored 15, while Stout as a team shot 23 for 30 from the linecharity stripe.
UWEC women's hockey rolls
Lexi Wilson, Bree Osborne, Courtney Wittig, Erin Goodell and Eryn Fjelsted all scored as UW-Eau Claire women's hockey earned a 5-1 victory against St. Catharine. The Blugolds went up 5-0 before St. Catharine scored its lone goal in the final minute of action.
Steel win in shootout
Killian Kiecker-Olson scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Chippewa Steel earned a 1-0 victory against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Josh Langford made 36 saves in the shutout effort.
