UWEC falls despite career days
Cole Rabedeaux (30 points), Ben Widdes (21) and Sean Miller (17) all set career scoring highs and UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball erased a 22-point deficit but fell just short in an 80-77 overtime loss to Bridgewater State at the Music City Classic in Gallatin, Tenn.
Miller hit a jumper with 52 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. The Blugolds will look to end their tournament trip on a high note when they face Mt. Aloysius (PA) today at 11 a.m.
UWEC women win fourth straight
UW-Eau Claire’s Hallee Hoeppner had 25 and Kelsey Bakken had 22 as the Blugolds, healed up after a week off, earned their fourth straight victory with a 71-60 triumph against St. Norbert.
Bakken also had nine rebounds, six assists and six steals.
The game was the first of two for the Blugolds at the Music City Classic. They play Beloit today at 3 p.m.
Stout women move to 10-0
Bailey Diersen scored 18 points, one of four Blue Devils in double digits, as UW-Stout women’s basketball moved to 10-0 for the first time since 1992-93 with a 78-66 victory against St. Scholastica at the UW-Superior Holiday Shootout Classic.
Amber Fabeck had 17 and Kyncaide Diedrich and Shannon Watkins each added 14 for Stout, which plays again today against host UW-Superior.
Stout men fall just short
John Keefe scored 17 points for UW-Stout men’s basketball but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Blue Devils fell to Cardinal Stritch, 80-77.
Jon Ciriacks led Stout with 20 points.
Big debut for Steel goalie
Igor Samokhvalov made 31 saves in his Chippewa debut as the Steel earned a 4-1 victory against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
Jacob Dirks, Connor Szmul, Grisha Gotovets and Isaac Moberg scored for the Steel.
