WFCA updates conference plan
The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and WIAA updated their football-only conference realignment plan on Friday.
Under the updated plan, Altoona would join the Coulee Conference. The Coulee is mainly comprised of teams from the greater La Crosse area.
Cadott would join the Dunn-St. Croix from the Cloverbelt, while Elk Mound, Durand and Mondovi would depart the Dunn-St. Croix for the Cloverbelt. Turtle Lake and Clear Lake would both join the Dunn-St. Croix from the Lakeland.
New Richmond would join the Big Rivers, while River Falls would leave the Big Rivers to join the Mississippi Valley Conference.
The proposed realignment would begin in the 2020 season.
Kajer second at diving sectionals
Eau Claire Alliance diver Mason Kajer scored a 448.30 at WIAA Division 1 diving sectionals on Friday for a runner-up finish.
The score sends Kajer to the state meet. Winners of each sectional get an automatic berth to state, and then the next highest 18 scores in the state move on. Kajer had the best score of any sectional runner-up in Division 1.
Alliance teammate Seth Henning finished in fourth at the sectional with a score of 331.60.
Blugolds hockey suffers defeat
The third-ranked UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to UW-Superior on Friday.
The Yellowjackets sport a sub-.500 record, but scored the game’s first two goals in the third period to grab the win.
Jon Richards pulled a goal back for the Blugolds in the closing minutes, but it wasn’t enough.
Eau Claire hosts top-ranked UW-Stevens Point tonight.
Blugolds finish fifth at WIAC meet
The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team placed fifth at Friday’s WIAC wrestling meet.
David Dudych grabbed a second-place finish at 149 pounds for Eau Claire.
