Thomas Longbella continued to climb the leaderboard at the Wisconsin Amateur Championship on Wednesday, although the leader may be too far ahead to catch now.
The Chippewa Falls native fired a 72 in the third round in Brookfield to move to 8-over for the tournament. He’s eight strokes back of first-place Piercen Hunt, who has a five-shot lead over the rest of the field heading into Thursday’s final round.
Longbella is tied for fifth place. He made a couple of birdies on Wednesday, a notable achievement on the challenging course at Westmoor Country Club.
Eau Claire’s Matt Tolan shot a 74 on Wednesday and sits in ninth entering the final day of play. He made three birdies on the front nine but took some lumps on the final nine. The former North Husky is 10-over for the tournament.
Spring Valley’s Tyler Leach made up some ground, climbing up 11 spots on the leaderboard with a 77. He’s tied for 50th at 23-over.
No golfers are under par for the tournament, and only one shot a below-par round on Wednesday. A winner will be crowned on Thursday as the state’s top amateur tournament wraps up.
