CHIPPEWA FALLS — Eau Claire Memorial and Menomonie both won two individual regional wrestling titles on Saturday.

Ethan Schermitzler and Levi Smith both won their weight classes for the Old Abes in regional action at Chippewa Falls, while Sam Skillings and Andrew Fenton were regional champions for the Mustangs.

Eau Claire North’s Carter Duerkop also won an individual title.

Memorial will send nine wrestlers to sectionals next weekend, while Menomonie will send eight. North and Chippewa Falls both have four wrestlers moving on.

“As always, I am very proud of the hustle, heart, energy, and effort displayed by our team today,” North coach Jake Rebhan said via email.

Duerkop upended Hudson’s Peter Hansen to win the 160-pound championship. Hansen entered regionals ranked No. 4 in Division 1. Duerkop defeated him with a pin.

Schermitzler won the title at 145 pounds, defeating River Falls’ Tyler Haydon with a 12-1 major decision in the finals. Smith was the champion at 170 pounds, taking down Menomonie’s Jake Boyette in a 7-0 decision to win the championship.

Skillings, ranked third in Division 1 for his weight class, won at 182 pounds, pinning Hudson’s Hank Gierke in the finals. Fenton took the crown at 285 pounds with a pin of Chippewa Falls’ Taylor Pahl in the title match.

River Falls won the team championship with 228 points, 14 more than second-place Hudson. Menomonie took third as a squad.
