ALTOONA — It didn’t take long for the RAM hockey team to put a disappointing loss behind it.
Three days after a 10-1 defeat at the hands of Baldwin-Woodville, RAM got back on track with a 7-0 win over Chequamegon/Phillips/Butternut on Friday. RAM skated to a 5-0 lead in the first period and never looked back.
Tommy Schmidt scored twice early in the first period and Bennett Seelen — who would finish with a hat trick — added two goals later in the period to go along with Nolan Hellegers’ goal to build an insurmountable lead in less than 12 minutes of game time.
RAM (Regis/Altoona/McDonell/Fall Creek) possessed the puck for the majority of the first period, working it around the offensive zone to find an open look at goal. Many times, they delivered by knocking the puck into the back of the net.
RAM goalkeeper Keaton Comero did his part too, making 19 stops to shutout Team SEaL, the co-op name for the Chequamegon/Phillips/Butternut merger. RAM outshot their opponent 46-19.
Team SEaL gave a much-improved showing in the second and third periods, controlling the puck far more than it did in the first period. But whenever needed, either Comero or the RAM defense would get the job done.
RAM — playing its first home game of the season — got a goal in the second period from Nick Madson. Seelen completed a hat trick with a third goal in the final two minutes of the game. It improved to 2-3-0 on the season with the victory.
Madson finished with two assists in addition to his one goal. Brendan Bresina, Cade Richard and Jackson Curtis also added assists for RAM.
