Chi-Hi grad gets coaching gig
Chippewa Falls graduate Mitch Olson was named the next head coach at La Crosse Central Tuesday after six years with the program as an assistant, most recently serving as the RiverHawks’ defensive coordinator this past season.
Olson, who went on to play college ball at Winona State and UW-Eau Claire, is a 2009 Chi-Hi graduate and former Leader-Telegram All-Northwest Player of the Year. He also played baseball and basketball for the Cardinals, but truly shined on the gridiron as a quarterback and safety, earning AP and WFCA All-State honors.
He played safety in college at both Winona State and with the Blugolds before moving to running back in his final season at UW-Eau Claire. Olson replaces Tony Servais, who resigned earlier this month to become Central’s dean of students after leading the football program for 10 years.
