Locals earn WIAC honors
Several local college athletes took home WIAC athlete of the week awards on Tuesday.
UW-Stout’s Jack Meyer repeated as the WIAC specialist of the week on the football field. The Chippewa Falls native made a 51-yard field goal in the Blue Devils’ win over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday. He also averaged 46 yards per punt.
UW-Eau Claire’s Jordan Witzel was the volleyball offensive player of the week after registering 3.18 kills per set last week. She had a .296 hitting percentage.
UW-Eau Claire doubles tennis players Aexa Brooks and Morgan Nelson also earned honors. They went undefeated last week.
Local teams retain AP spots
Regis, Cumberland and Durand all remained in the latest Associated Press prep football poll.
The Ramblers and Beavers are ranked first and second among small schools, respectively, while Durand slots in at No. 10. Two schools in the Leader-Telegram’s coverage area received votes but did not make the cut for the top 10: Menomonie in the Large Division and Spring Valley in the Small Division.
